The 2,000 coins trap
You will find More Chilli described as having a 2,000 maximum. That figure is 2,000 coins for five wild symbols — a line award, in coins.
It is not 2,000x your total bet. Those are different units and conflating them is the single most common error in legacy pokie reporting.
A coin award is measured against the coin denomination and the line bet. A total-bet multiple is measured against everything you staked on that spin. On a 25-line game, if you are playing all lines, your total bet is 25 times your line bet — so a 2,000-coin line award is 80x total bet, not 2,000x.
We are not publishing a total-bet maximum for this game because a stable one does not exist across its builds. But we can tell you that anyone quoting 2,000x has performed no conversion at all.
This same trap applies across Aristocrat's legacy catalogue and is why several pages in this section decline to state a maximum.
The multi-screen free games
This is genuinely one of the better feature designs in Aristocrat's back catalogue, and it deserves explaining properly.
Free games begin on two reel sets running simultaneously. During the round, collecting chilli symbols unlocks additional reel sets — up to four — and adds extra wilds.
The structure means the round physically grows as it progresses. You start with two grids and can finish with four, each contributing wins, with more wilds in play than you began with.
That is a compounding structure, and it is unusual for a game of this age. Most legacy pokie features are static — a fixed number of spins on a fixed grid with a fixed multiplier. More Chilli's round has a trajectory.
It also explains the volatility classification of medium: the expansion mechanic reliably produces something while rarely producing something enormous, because there is no multiplier layer stacked on the extra screens.
The RTP range
95.69% to 96.69%, with some builds reported as high as 97%.
That is a wide spread but a considerably better one than most of this catalogue — the whole range sits at or above where other Aristocrat legacy titles top out. Where's the Gold spans 92–96%; Buffalo is reported at 94.85%.
If you are choosing among Aristocrat legacy content on return alone, More Chilli's range is the most favourable in our coverage. That said, the same configuration caveat applies — the specific build determines what you get.
The gamble option
Present in some builds. Gamble rounds are typically close to even-money propositions, which makes them closer to fair than the base game. They do not improve your expected return but, unlike most side features, they do not materially worsen it either.
Two versions of this game, two different sets of numbers
Aristocrat games exist in two forms with genuinely different mathematics, and almost every site conflates them.
| Australian venue pokie | Online conversion | |
|---|---|---|
| Where you play it | Clubs, pubs, casinos | Overseas licensed casinos |
| Legal for AU residents | Yes, in venue | No — prohibited under the Interactive Gambling Act 2001 |
| Return | Set by operator configuration within state minimum | 95.69–96.69%; some builds to 97% |
| Is the return displayed? | Usually not | Yes, in the info screen |
| Maximum bet | $5–$10 per spin depending on state | 0.01–125, operator-dependent |
| Maximum win | Denomination and config dependent | Not stable across builds |
| Lines | 25 | 25 |
The venue version
The figure that matters in a club is the configured return, chosen by the venue operator within the statutory minimum for your state or territory — not by Aristocrat, and not by the game's design.
| Jurisdiction | Minimum RTP | Max bet per spin |
|---|---|---|
| Victoria, ACT | 87% | $5 |
| South Australia | 87.5% | $5 |
| NSW | 85% | $10 |
| Queensland, Tasmania, NT | 85% | $5 (sources vary) |
Minimums per the Australian Gambling Research Centre; Victoria's $5 cap is set by the VGCCC under the Australian/New Zealand Gaming Machine National Standard. Casino machines generally sit above these club and pub floors.
The configured return is usually not displayed on the machine. You can press the information button for the paytable, but the actual RTP setting normally is not shown. There is no consumer-facing fix for this.
Other venue rules worth knowing: in NSW, prize money above $2,000 must be paid by cheque or electronic transfer rather than cash, ATMs are banned from gaming areas, and there is a mandatory shutdown between 4am and 10am. Queensland club and hotel machines carry reported win limits of $10,000, or $25,000 on a jackpot.
The online version
The online conversions run the multi-screen free games round intact, at returns from 95.69% to 96.69% and reportedly as high as 97% in some builds. That is the most favourable range in our Aristocrat coverage — and it sits roughly ten points above a Queensland venue minimum, which is the whole point of this section.
Online builds are deployed to regulated markets overseas, mainly North America. They are not legal for Australian residents to play for real money. We cover their figures because they are the only published per-game numbers that exist for this catalogue, and because they tell you something real about the game's design — but they do not describe the machine on your local floor.
The practical gap is large. An online build at around 96% against a venue machine configured near its state minimum of 85–87% is a difference of roughly eight to ten percentage points of turnover. Same artwork, same features, materially different product.
