The 100,000x problem
Almost every site you will find quotes Mahjong Ways 2 at 100,000x maximum win. We are not going to, and here is why.
The published figures for this game contradict each other, badly:
| Figure | Where it appears |
|---|---|
| 100,000x | PG Soft game information sheet; most affiliate databases |
| 25,000x | Some operator-published game guides |
| 1,708x | Also present in PG Soft source material |
| 2,893x | The figure the original Mahjong Ways is reviewed at |
A gap between 1,708x and 100,000x is not a rounding difference or a build variation. It is a factor of nearly sixty, and both numbers appear in material tracing back to the developer.
Independent review site BigWinBoard, which plays games rather than copying spec sheets, states plainly that the source material contains both figures, that they clearly contradict each other, and that in practice this is not a large max-win slot — its gameplay is built around consistent tumble chains rather than single enormous hits.
Our position: the 100,000x figure appears to describe a theoretical paytable ceiling or a total-exposure cap rather than an outcome the game's maths realistically produces. We are not publishing a maximum win for this game until we can confirm one against a live paytable. If that seems unhelpful, consider the alternative — every site that prints 100,000x is telling you something that the game's own designers apparently also describe as 1,708x.
What the game actually is
A 4-5-5-5-4 grid — narrower on the outer reels, wider in the middle — producing 2,000 fixed ways to win. Wins form on adjacent reels from the left, and winning symbols tumble away for replacements to drop in.
RTP 96.95%, which is high and is the one figure on this page that every source agrees on. It is also the highest published return in PG Soft's ten most-played titles on this site.
The multiplier ladder
This is the mechanic worth understanding, because it works differently in the two halves of the game.
In the base game, a multiplier above the reels climbs x1 → x2 → x3 → x5 as a tumble chain continues, then resets when the chain ends.
In free spins, the same ladder runs x2 → x4 → x6 → x10.
That is a meaningfully different structure from the additive multiplier symbols used by Pragmatic Play and BGaming. Here the multiplier is a property of the chain, not a symbol that has to land. Every free spin starts at x2 and every extra tumble pushes it higher — which is why a long chain in the bonus is worth so much more than the same chain in the base game.
Gold-plated tiles
Symbols on the middle reels can land gold-plated. If a gold tile forms part of a win, it transforms into a wild after the tumble resolves, which frequently extends the chain that created it.
In free spins, every eligible symbol on reel 3 is gold. That single change is what makes the bonus round qualitatively different rather than just longer.
Free spins
Three scatters award 10 free spins, with each additional scatter adding two more. The round retriggers.
Volatility is also disputed
PG Soft classifies this as medium. Some operator guides describe it as high. Given the disagreement over the maximum win, treat the volatility label with the same caution — and see our PG Soft provider page for why the studio's volatility classifications carry very little information generally.
Who it suits
Someone who wants a high return and enjoys tumble-chain momentum. The 96.95% is genuinely excellent and is the strongest reason to play this game.
It does not suit anyone who came for the 100,000x. That number should not be the basis of a decision.

- Why maximum win figures are so often unreliable
RTP, grid and feature data from PG Soft's published game information. Maximum win deliberately omitted pending verification. Release year 2020; the exact date is recorded ambiguously across sources and we have not confirmed it. Reviewed 29 August 2026.
Verify the return figure in the game's own information screen. Operators deploy different certified builds of the same game, and the figure shown to you is the one that applies. Set a deposit limit first.
